Good hygiene is rewarded

A FOOD for Health Award has been given to seven establishments throughout the Stockton area. The award, which rewards good hygiene in food premises, has been presented to: Morgans Butchers, Yarm High Street; North Tees Hospital main kitchen; Tall Trees Hotel; Hungry Jacks, High Street, Stockton; Blue Bell Inn, Eaglescliffe; Preston Farm, Stockton, and Ragworth Neighbourhood Centre. The award was launched by Stockton Borough Council in conjunction with North Tees Primary Care Trust, Health Promotion and Hartlepool and North Tees NHS Trust dieticians, to promote good food health.

HOPE FOR HOME: A residential home for elderly people which was expected to close later this year could now remain open. Two interested parties have entered into talks with the Sisters of Nazareth, who run Middlesbrough's Nazareth House, about keeping it going. Sister Hannah, superior at the home in Park Road North, said: "It is important to emphasise, at this stage, that there are many important matters to be resolved before this glimmer of hope becomes an expectation that Nazareth House will continue in some form. But we felt it was important to let people know that discussions are taking place."

let's discover: The Dutton-Forshaw Land Rover dealership in Concorde Way, Stockton, holds its annual Discovery Weekend today and tomorrow. A variety of fun activities and challenges for all ages are promised. as well as the chance to view the latest Land Rover Discovery. Off-road driving along a jungle track will be on offer, as will an obstacle course challenge and there will be the chance to win an adventure break in Andalucia.

Easy access: An Access Fair at Stockton's Queen's Campus, which is part of Durham University, will help people decide which access course to take. On Tuesday, July 2, anyone interested is invited to drop in between noon and 2pm to get free information and advice about the courses offered by local education providers. Road warning: Motorists in Hartlepool are warned about emergency roadworks starting in Winterbottom Avenue next week. From Monday, one side of the road will be closed near the junction with Brus Crescent while urgent work is carried out by Northumbrian Water to repair a damaged sewer pipe. Temporary traffic lights will be in place for about two weeks.
