FOOTBALL fans are hoping to draw lots of visitors to a photographic exhibition celebrating the end of an era for their club.

Farewell to Feethams is a project run by the Darlington Supporters' Trust to mark the end of the Darlington FC ground and the move to the controversial new stadium on the outskirts of town.

The centerpiece of the project is a photography exhibition being held at Darlington Arts Centre over the next two months.

A team of professional and amateur photographers took hundreds of images leading up to the final match of the season.

The best 40 pictures will be displayed at the exhibition, which will also include images taken by fans and The Northern Echo, and memorabilia from the stadium.

Youngsters are also being given the chance to display art work at the exhibition as part of an education project.

Sponsors are being sought to help fund the exhibition. Any photo can be sponsored for £100 and have the name of the sponsor attached to it.

Smaller donations will be recognised on a roll of honour at the exhibition and on the supporters' trust website.

It is hoped more than 15,000 people will visit the exhibition.

Peter Stockhill, of the trust, said: "The idea for the project came completely from supporters' and their wish to celebrate the old ground, Feethams, ahead of its 120th year, and the intended move by Darlington to the new stadium.

"We believe the exhibition will be a popular, community-driven event to mark a landmark occasion for both the town and football club.

"We aim to attract not only football supporters, but others who wish to mark this historical event or enjoy visual arts."
