A man has been warned he is facing jail after admitting a charge of rape.

Leslie Stone, 38, had also faced charges of false imprisonment, indecent assault, assault and making a threat to kill, relating to the same incident on March 21, last year. But, after he entered his guilty plea to the more serious charge, the prosecution agreed to let the other matters lie on file and he will not be tried - despite entering not guilty pleas. Stone, of Chapel Hill Road, Peterlee, County Durham, will be sentenced in three weeks after the preparation of reports. Judge Guy Whitburn warned him custody was "inevitable".

FIGHTING BACK: Former world boxing champion Paul Ingle, who suffered massive head injuries in a title fight 18 months ago, is to lead a big charity run next month at Scarborough, North Yorkshire. Ingle, who celebrated his 30th birthday at the weekend, spent several months in Sheffield's Royal Hallamshire Hospital recovering from his injuries. He said he was recovering from a recent hernia operation but expects to be fit in time for the Ingle-land charity run, set up in his honour, on Sunday, July 21.

Blue sounds: Boy band Blue will be performing at the Lightwater Valley theme park, near Ripon, North Yorkshire, on Sunday, July 14, between 11.30am and 2pm. They will be appearing as part of the Children's ITV summer roadshow, the White Knuckle Tour.

Army theatre: Army medics at Towthorpe Lines, at Strensall, near York, will have a new lecture theatre from tomorrow. The facility is being named after Brigadier Bryn Francis, who was the first non-medical officer in the history of the Royal Army Medical Corps to rise to the rank of brigadier. He started as a boy bugler, in 1948.

TV chef: Top TV chef Ken Hom will be serving up a treat at a special Thai cookery demonstration at Sainsbury's at Monk's Cross, York, on Thursday, from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. He will also be signing copies of his latest book, Foolproof Thai Cookery.

Police award: Thirsk company Newlife Windows (North) have become the first window manufacturer in the country to be awarded a Secured by Design licence. The award will be presented by North Yorkshire's Chief Constable David Kenworthy today.

Jobs boost: Eight jobs are to be created in Stockton when Walmsley Furnishing plc opens its doors in the Castlegate Shopping Centre, Stockton. The store, which specialises in upholstered furniture and dining room furniture, will open next week.

Safety talks: Rail safety will be high on the agenda this evening when the Health and Safety Commission's railway industry advisory committee meets at the National Railway Museum, in York.

Show goes on: Cleveland Hunt Supporters will hold their annual show next month. Last year's event was cancelled due to the foot-and-mouth crisis, but this year's show is on Sunday, July 7, at Field House, Nunthorpe, starting at 9.30am.
