Durham Literature Festival, fast becoming established as a major national event, has a new venue this year.
It will be held at the new Gala Theatre, where a variety of events will be under the same roof for the first time.
The festival has gone from strength to strength since Durham City Arts took it over six years ago.
This year's event, entitled Voices, runs from from June 29-July 13.
It will include contributions from Germaine Greer, John Mortimer and poets Simon Armitage and Gregory Woods.
It will also feature The Murder Squad crime writers, North-East writers Chaz Brenchley, Peter Mortimer and Neil Astley, international artist Linton Kwesi Johnson and Shakers and Movers, a group of artists who promote racial awareness.
Festival co-ordinator Alison Lister said: "The festival today is fiercely ambitious and every writer appearing has something to say, is dedicated to their craft, and is eager to talk to fans and critics alike."
To mark the festival's move to the Gala Theatre, banners and displays celebrating the range of events will be mounted outside it in Millennium Square.
A new late evening Rising Voices programme, enabling people to hear work by some of the region's newest talents without having to pay, will be held in the theatre's foyer bar.
