The Last Post was sounded at the funeral of former Roy-al Marine Norman Smith, who was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge campaign in the Second World War.
The Union Flag draped the coffin, which also bore his medals and Marine beret during the service at St Edmund's Church, Sedgefield, County Durham.
Mr Smith, 80, was well known in the village and a member of a number of organisations. He leaves a widow, Joan.
