THE artist who depicted footballer Alan Shearer in a giant caricature which hung from the Tyne Bridge made sketches of fairgoers at the weekend.

Paul Slattery was the star guest at the annual summer event at St Cuthbert's Hospice, in Durham. Mr Slattery created artworks featuring visitors, watched by spectators.

There was also the opportunity for people to take their antiques for valuation by a team of experts.

Other attractions included Scottish country dancing, a helium balloon launch, saxophone music, a treasure hunt and clairvoyants.

Stalls included plants, jewellery, books and crafts, and visitors tucked into cream teas, ice creams and hot dogs.
