SEDGEFIELD Racecourse held a meeting to remember for the ladies last night.

The Northern Echo hosted the first ever ladies night at the course, with a programme of events specially tailored to appeal to the fairer sex.

The entertainment included a Space Hopper Grand National, where a dozen volunteers took part in a race over a 25-metre course on the 1970s bouncy toy. The event was won by Anastasia Kellett.

A Best Dressed Lady of the Evening competition was judged by course mascot, Sedge the Fieldmouse, and there was also a smartest 1960s-style skirt competition.

A game of celebrity bingo and karaoke was held in the Theakston Suite, where Virgin Vie Cosmetics hosted make-up demonstrations.

Flower arrangers held a demonstration on how to prepare an Ascot-style hat and among numerous prize draws was the chance to win £50 worth of Next shopping vouchers.

The six races were sponsored by The Northern Echo, Darlington and Stockton Times, O2 and Bosch, Currys, Teesside Airport and Pro-Active PR.

Carol Williams, of Bishop Auckland, County Durham, received £50 worth of Next vouchers after taking part in a prize draw organised by The Northern Echo.
