A HOT air balloon launched Redcar and Cleveland Council's affordable warmth strategy.

The strategy's key aim is to eradicate fuel poverty and in Redcar and Cleveland that figure is expected to top 17,000 households.

The average household will release enough carbon dioxide through energy use to fill six hot air balloons every year.

The strategy's priority is to assess exactly how many households suffer from fuel poverty before works begin on a series of key areas, including awareness raising, advice and education and housing conditions.

Copies of the strategy are available in the borough's libraries and main council offices, as well as the council's energy office, Central Depot, Limerick Road, Dormanstown, telephone (01642) 776913.
