ORIGINAL paintings by some of the twentieth century's most famous artists have gone on display in a new exhibition.
Twelve of the Best is the first in a series of exhibitions at the dli - formerly Durham Light Infantry Museum and Durham Art Gallery - exploring the collection of Durham County Council's schools' library service.
The learning resources, usually only seen by pupils, include original works by artists including Hockney, Lowry and Henry Moore.
Schools can borrow from the collection, which includes paintings, books and artefacts, and use them to support lessons.
Included in the exhibition, which opened runs until September 8, are original works by Norman Cornish, Sir Sydney Nolan, Dame Elizabeth Frink, John Nash, John Piper and William Henry Williamson.
Pat Brown, assistant youth services manager for the county council, said: "It's a really good opportunity for members of the public to see these works of art."
