Newton Aycliffe edged their way from the foot of the First Division after they beat the visiting league leaders, Fishburn A in the decider.

The visitors went ahead with a win from John Griffin but the home side moved ahead when Michael Hewitt and Richie Young won. Brian Quest squared the match but Newton Aycliffe went to victory when Bill Barrigan beat Charlie Hirst in the decider.

Wheatley Hill A moved into second place in the First Division after they restricted their hosts at Willington to one point, which came when Stan Bennett won the final frame. The Hill's winners were Dennis Clish, Alan Hall, Dave Walker and John Worthington. This result left Wheatley Hill one point behind Fishburn A.

Brandon moved a point behind Wheatley Hill A after they only dropped one point on their visit to Witton Gilbert, who had John Rooney as their only winner. Brandon's points came from Colin Goodrick, John Hall, Graeme Jackson with a 34 break and Kevin Sample with a 41 break.

Old Shildon were pushed down to share third place with Brandon after they were beaten by the odd point by the visiting Ferryhill. The home side went two up with wins from Michael Pratt and Billy Goggins but Neil Spender and Gynn Toas levelled. In the decider Ferryhill's Adrian Jones beat Jossie Aldworth.

Shotton Palms slipped in just a point behind Brandon and Old Shildon after they only dropped one point to the visiting Spennymoor A. Paul Atkinson put the Moors ahead but then the Palms took over with wins from Jimmy Evans senior, Paul Hickman with a 36 break, John Armstrong and Jimmy Evans junior.

The Second Division leaders, Crook Belle Vue trailed after they lost the first two points at Wheatley Hill B, who had wins from Tony Ellison and Jock Frost. However Ken Rider and Derek Potts levelled the match. In the decider Crook's leading player, John Warriner beat Norman Carr. This result left Crook three points clear at the top.

Newhouse took over the second place in the Second Division after they only dropped one point on their visit to Fishburn B. The first four points went to the visitors through John Maddox, Jimmy Hassen, Ian Dinsdale and Steve Mountain. The home side took the final frame with a win by Alan Wilson.

Sherburn Village jumped up to share the third place in the Second Division with their hosts at Langley Park, who had Ray Coates as their only winner. The Sherburn points came from John Bower, Adrian Twist, Alan Greener and Scott Mallaburn.

Stanley Central recorded their best win of the season when they travelled to Durham City and only dropped one point, which they lost when Gary Ward took the first frame for the home side. The Central then took over with wins from Frank Foster, Walter Cornell, Jim Dufton and Harold Grimes. Despite this win Stanley central still share the bottom spot in the Second Division with Fishburn B.

Spennymoor B entertained Meadowfield with both teams needing a big win to stay in touch with the Second Division leading group. However the odd point win for the visitors was not good enough for either team. Alan Rowell put the Moors ahead by then Stephen Hughes and Malcolm Hughes moved Meadowfield in front. Wayne Parry levelled the match but then the visitors John Jackson beat Phil Wilson in the decider.

Crowtrees dropped two points behind Wingate at the top of the Third Division after they suffered their worst defeat of the season when they only took one point from their visit to Coundon. Keith McLauchlan took Crowtrees lone point, whilst Coundon went to victory with wins from Frank Nicholson, Malcolm Ryder, Gary Goulbourne and Willy Shoulder.

Tom Ward took Hunwick's only point when they visited Wingate, who moved two points clear at the top of the Third Division with wins from John Bourne, Steve Allen, Paul Harrison and Geoff Howe.

New Durham now share third place in the Third Division with Coundon after their odd point victory at Sacriston. Jeff Evans took the first frame for Sacriston and Mark Brown the last but the visitors went to victory with wins from Terry Pattison, Thomas Cairns and Tony Thompson.

The Leeholme derby saw the A team edge to victory in the decider when David Fletcher beat Adrian Prest on the black. Barry Shaw and Lawrence Jones put the A team two up but wins from John Taylor and Ray Gill for the B team set up the decider.

Darlington Snooker Club A landed the Championship after they beat the visiting Tindale Crescent for the loss of only one point. Hopetown took the runners-up spot following their home draw with Harrowgate Hill, who took the third place in the First Division.

The Second Division Championship went to Bishop Auckland Cricket Club after they whitewashed the visiting Shildon Elm Road. Darlington Riley's landed the runners-up spot following their draw at Bishop Auckland Gents A, whilst the leaders for much of the season, Darlington Snooker Club C could only manage to finish in third place after their B team beat them by two points.
