A SELECT band of youngsters has attended a summer school for the performing arts.

Twenty one children from primary and secondary schools across east Cleveland attended a two-week course during which they wrote and performed a play, and designed and made the stage sets. The theme of the play was a chat show and soap opera set in the future. Organised by the East Cleveland Education Action Zone, the sessions were held at Redcar and Cleveland College.

College principal Alan Old said: "The East Cleveland Education Action Zone Gifted and Talented Summer Schools are an excellent opportunity for exceptional school pupils to develop their skills in a variety of fields.''
