Darlington: Last night's friendly against Huddersfield was cancelled after torrential rain soaked Feethams, writes Craig Stoddart.

Quakers felt it inappropriate to risk damaging the surface before the season has started

after experiencing years of pitch problems.

Trialist Billy Beall left the club after yesterday's game was scrapped but manager Tommy Taylor has not ruled out the possibility of the midfielder returning for another trial. He has not played professional football since leaving Leyton Orient halfway through last season and is lacking in fitness.

Taylor is still on the trail of Carlisle's Stuart Whitehead and yesterday put an improved offer to the defender. The situation is clouded by the fact he is owed wages by the Brunton Park club, which has resulted in the PFA becoming involved.

Darlington's youth team play against Tow Law Town at their Ironworks Road ground today (3pm), while the first team now turn their attentions to Monday night when they play at Guisborough (7.30). The match was penciled in for Wednesday, but has been shifted forward after last night's cancellation.
