A BATTLE by residents to halt an application to build two homes at one of Richmond's top addresses has ended in defeat.

Plans for two detached homes on land near The Terrace nursing home, in Maison Dieu, were approved by councillors, while a third was rejected because it was too large and too close to neighbouring houses.

People living in Maison Dieu and neighbouring Linden Gardens had already seen two bids to develop the land rejected this year by Richmondshire District Council.

Objectors were concerned about their properties being overlooked and about extra parking and traffic congestion.

Previously, all the developments were the subject of one application, but this time three separate proposals were submitted.
