A RETIRED miner and his wife have celebrated 60 years of marriage.
William Dawson, 81, and wife Elizabeth, 77 - above - of Shakespeare Close, East Stanley, met through mutual friends during the Second World War years. They were married in St Thomas' Church, Craghead, near the pit where Mr Dawson worked, and lived in Bloemfontein before moving to Stanley 12 years ago. The couple celebrated in style with their family - all five children, 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren - at a party at the Bluebell pub.
