MOTORISTS can expect two weeks of delays and speed restrictions in Ladgate Lane and Low Lane, Middlesbrough, from Monday. Resufacing work and chipping is to be carried out on the route between the A19 and Ormesby.

Middlesbrough Council is warning that while the work will be conducted outside peak traffic times, road users should expect traffic control delays and speed restrictions because of the loose chippings.

STAFF PROJECT: A school in Thornaby has been chosen by the town's Asda store as its next local project. Staff will be giving practical help to Westlands Special Needs School to help it reclaim a garden and buy play equipment to put in it.

WEBSITE REVAMP: Green organisation Middlesbrough Environment City has updated its website to include more information about its activities. The site, at www.menvcity.org.uk, now boasts an area where visitors can order free information packs on home composting, cycling, and education packs for schools. There is also information on community youth projects, including Thorntree Lifeskills and a New Deal initiative.

TEA UP: The Japanese tea ceremony will be featured at an event at Hartlepool Art Gallery, Church Square, next week. An informal talk on Japanese culture will be given by lecturer Miki Davies on Tuesday, from 7pm to 8.30pm. The free event will also give people the chance to try on a kimono and find out what their name looks like written in Japanese. For more information contact (01429) 890000.

TEA DANCE: A tea dance will be held in Loftus town hall on Tuesday from 2pm to 4pm. There will be modern sequence dancing and admission is £1. All are welcome.

GALA CRICKET: Saltburn Cricket Club will hold a gala day on Sunday, August 11, between 1pm and 5pm. The organisers would like to hear from anyone who could help them set up a car boot sale for the event. Anyone who can help is asked to call Simon Walker on 07850 045447.

WATER SELL-OFF: A watercolour exhibition will be held at Saltburn Library from Monday. The paintings, which are also for sale, are by local artist Wendy Ainley and the exhibition runs until the end of August.

FUN DAY: A fun day to raise money for North Skelton Christmas lights will be held at the Bull's Head in North Skelton today. There will be a bouncy castle, stalls, and a tombola. Admission is 20p.
