Fence plan to cut crime

Residents may be given better security following regular complaints about clothes being stolen from their washing lines. Councillors from Hartlepool Borough Council's South Neighbourhood Consultative Forum will meet on Friday when they are being asked to approve plans for a 1.8m high fence behind properties in Owton Manor Lane.

ANIMAL CHARITY: The Saltburn Animal Rescue Association is holding a number of events this month. On Saturday, a coffee morning and table top sale will be held at Marske Leisure Centre, High Street, Marske, between 10am and 1pm. There will be a variety of stalls. On Sunday, the charity will hold a table-top sale at the car boot sale in the Somerfield car park and, a table top sale at the Allendale Hotel, Skelton, from 2pm to 6pm.

FREE CONCERT: Mexican dance group Tenochtitlan will perform in Middlesbrough's Victoria Square on Friday, between noon and 2pm. The professional troupe, soon to perform at Billingham Folklore Festival, will be accompanied by the 12-piece Mariachi Orchestra. The outdoor concert is free.

NAME CHOSEN: Councillors in Middlesbrough have chosen Adult Shop as the name of a sex shop in Linthorpe Road. Last week, the council's licensing committee gave permission for the store, which will sell pornographic videos and kinky sex gear - but vetoed plans for it to be called Fetish Forum or Adult X.

WALKING RACE: A walking race will start from the Marine Hotel, Marine Parade, Saltburn, on Sunday, August 25 at 1pm. Last year, there were more than 40 entries for the six-mile multi-terrain walk which takes between 50 and 90 minutes to complete. Entries cost £4 per individual and applications should be in for Tuesday, August 20. There will also be an 1850-style Victorian attire section. Call John Paddick, on (01642) 489728 to enter.

COFFEE MORNING: Guisborough Cruse Bereavement Care will hold a coffee morning at Sunnyfield House in Guisborough on Saturday, September 21 between 9.30am and noon.

MP'S SURGERY: MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland Dr Ashok Kumar will hold two advice surgeries tomorrow. The first will be at Marton Library from 4.30pm to 5.30pm and the second will be at Langdon Square Community Centre at Coulby Newham between 7pm and 8pm.
