A STUDENT from County Durham was given the chance to serve celebrity guests when he was invited to gain work experience at a famous hotel.

Bosses at the five-star Cliveden House, in Taplow, Berkshire, were so impressed with Roy Hewlett that they have offered him a permanent position when he finishes studying at Darlington College of Technology.

Roy, 19, from Newton Aycliffe, was invited by the hotel's management to take up a four-week placement in one of its Michelin star restaurants as part of the full-time NVQ Level 3 Restaurant Supervision programme.

Roy served guests including Sir David Frost, and footballers Les Ferdinand and David Seaman. He was also introduced to wine tasting from the extensive cellars.

Roy said: "It was really good working with highly skilled professionals because you pick up hints and tips all the time. Many of the staff were from other countries, and it was interesting to exchange experiences. It has given me loads of confidence and I definitely want to work in a five-star hotel."
