PEOPLE are being sought for a group that will put forward patients' views in the planning of health services.

The Durham and Chester-le-Street Primary Care Trust (PCT), which is responsible for GPs and health clinics, is setting up a patients' panel.

Panel members will work with the trust's board and staff and represent the views of patients and public in the planning of primary services.

The panel will have 18 places and a recruitment drive has already found 14 representatives from the community health council, carer organisations and voluntary groups.

Fiona Anderson, local advisory group support worker, said: "Those who become involved in the panel will have an opportunity to make a real difference to services in the area.

"Their contribution and representation of community and patients' needs, concerns and views, can help to ensure appropriate health and social care services are provided.

"The PCT is committed to making the panel a genuine partnership and I would encourage anyone who is interested in local health services and cares about primary services in this area to join.''

Brian Key, the trust's director of performance and modernisation, said patients' forums did not have to be set up until next April.
