SHOPPING centre manager David Ward has taken to the stage to encourage youngsters to become pop stars for the day.
Mr Ward, manager of the Cleveland Centre in Middlesbrough, was promoting the Top Spot Singing Competition, which is open to young people aged 11 to 18.
The contest will take place at the centre between August 21 and 28, between 11.30am and 1.30pm. The final will be held at 10am on Sunday, September 1. The winner will receive HMV record vouchers, plus recording time and the production of ten CDs at Studio 64.
Mr Ward said: "It's going to be a fun event and it's really to give people from the area the chance to show off their talents. It can be any kind of music, all we ask is that they provide their own backing tape."
Entry forms are available from the information point in the centre. Entrants need to return these along with a tape or CD of them singing.
