MARIE Curie Cancer Care in North Yorkshire is looking for adventurous volunteers willing to take the plunge with a fundraising parachute jump.

Intrepid fundraisers can try a tandem jump from 10,000ft, attached to a professional, or a static line jump from 3,000ft. Training will be given. Those interested should call (01904) 621000 or visit the website at www.mariecurie.org.uk.

FLATS SCHEME: A former town centre warehouse in Scarborough could be converted into 24 flats if councillors give approval. DSE (Scarborough) wants to give the 19th Century building in Wooler Street a new lease of life. But residents have objected, saying the scheme will create traffic and noise.

Repair cash: The Harrogate district's Stay Put scheme for home owners aged over 65 is to benefit from a further £100,000 in funding from the borough council. Grant aid is given to help vulnerable people stay in their homes.

Castle tours: Guided tours for the family around Knaresborough Castle and Museum are on offer this summer. Visitors can venture into the castle dungeons and youngsters can try on Civil War costumes in the museum. For more details, telephone (01423) 556188.

Drive date: A whist drive takes place at the Manor Close Centre, Kirkbymoorside, on Wednesday, August 21, at 7.30pm. The event will raise money for centre funds.

Club boost: A sponsored walk last week in aid of the ground development fund at Pickering Town Football Club raised £700. The club has thanked organisers and participants.

Cash raised: A street collection, held in Easingwold on July 19 on behalf of the NCH children's charity, raised £486.

Open gardens: The last St John Ambulance open garden event of the year will be held at Bolton Castle, near Leyburn, on Sunday, from 10am to 5pm. The medieval garden includes a vineyard, bowling green and maze. Admission is £1.50 for adults, 50p for children.
