A GIANT stick of rock was presented to youngsters at a Durham hospital last week.
At 3ft 5in high, the rock was the equivalent to 100 pieces of ordinary rock and is to be raffled off to raise funds for the Treetops Children's Unit at the University Hospital of North Durham.
The unusual gift was donated by Colin Parish, from Gilesgate, Durham, who won it at a conference in Blackpool.
Colin Smith, matron on the unit, said: "We thank Mr Parish for thinking of the children at the hospital. We were going to distribute it between staff and the patients but we couldn't find a hammer big enough to break it!"
