Darlington Football Club boss George Reynolds is setting up a radio station to fight back against his critics.

The chairman confirmed last night that he is to set up 24-hour-a-day Quakers FM, with the radio studio being incorporated into his new stadium complex.

As well as match reports and discussion, Mr Reynolds said the station would broadcast music, celebrity interviews and the latest news and traffic information.

He said: "We are building a state-of-the-art studio for our own radio station. It is good for us because if the media say anything wrong we can get on and give some stick back.

"I will be able to get on and fill in the gaps, put the record straight on the radio.

"I want to give the people of Darlington the truth, not half the truth."

Although the plans are in their early stages, initially the station is expected to broadcast over a 12-mile radius around Darlington.

Mr Reynolds said he would also like to broadcast in the Sunderland area.

"The people of Sunderland love me. By setting up a radio station, we will be taking control of our own situation."
