FIFTY children were given a fun taster of life at secondary school yesterday as part of a summer of activities.

The ten and 11-year-olds are taking part in a scheme at Wensleydale School, in Leyburn, which has seen them tackling maths and English challenges, as well as sports and other team exercises.

The youngsters are all starting at the school next month after moving from primary schools throughout the dale.

Organiser of the two-week event, Helen Ellison, said: "Because there are so many small village schools in Wensleydale, this is a very good way for the children from different ones to get to know each other."
