A TEENAGE girl was grabbed by three men who tried to pull her into a van in Ripon, North Yorkshire, on Tuesday night.

The 16-year-old was walking along High Skellgate at about 7.30pm when she was approached by the men in a white Ford Transit-style van. She managed to escape, but was shaken by the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on (01423) 539653.

FESTIVAL CASH: A music festival which attracted thousands of people raised more than £1,000 for good causes. The H2O02: Beached festival saw more than 25 bands perform on two stages on Scarborough's South Bay beach on Saturday. The event made a profit of £1,200, which will be divided between a number of charities. The event was run by a group of volunteers and backed by Scarborough Borough Council.

RESTAURANT RAID: A cleaner fled in terror after a masked man burst into the Blue Bicycle restaurant in York early yesterday. He threatened the woman and demanded cash, escaping with a small amount of money.

PUB BRAWL: A man suffered head injuries and had to be treated in hospital after a fight broke out in the Winning Post pub, in Bishopthorpe Road, York, and spilled out into the street. No arrests were made.

BODY IDENTIFIED: A body found hanged from a tree on Heworth Stray, in York, earlier this week has been identified as that of 22-year-old Christopher Penrose, from Markham Street. There were no suspicious circumstances.

CASH WINDFALL: The 200 members of the Fulford Working Men's Club in York could be line for windfall payments of up to £1,000 each. The club is closing at the end of this month, and members will all receive an equal share of the assets when it is sold to a property developer to be turned into flats.

TRUCKER RESCUED: A 50-year-old truck driver was cut free from his vehicle by firefighters after it was in collision with another wagon. The man was trapped inside his truck for 40 minutes before he was rescued and taken to Middlesbrough General Hospital with a broken leg. Emergency workers also helped clear some diesel spilt during the accident, which happened in Dockside Road, Middlesbrough, on Wednesday afternoon.

SEX CHARGE: A teenager is facing Crown Court accused of a sex offence against an 11-year-old girl after an alleged incident while she was playing with friends on Harrogate's Jennyfield estate. Magistrates at the North Yorkshire town yesterday bailed John Dean, 19, of Lincoln Grove, Harrogate, until September 19, when he is expected to appear at York Crown Court accused of indecent assault on July 28.
