The Under-11s had two teams in action at a tournament at Kader FC on Saturday which Rangers' 'Whites' won convincingly. The Under-12s also had two teams participating at the tournament.

The Mount Pleasant Rangers Whites Under-11s played against Seaton Carew and won 3-0. Rangers scorers were Nicky Petch, Matthew York and Owen Raper.

They then played a hard-fought match against Billingham Town which could have gone either way but in the end Billingham won 2-1 with Rangers' scorer being Nathan Wilson.

They then played one of the host teams, Kader B who they beat 2-0. Rangers scorers were Nathan Wilson and Owen Raper.

The last game of the group stage saw them against Hartlepool Juniors who they beat 2-1. Rangers scorers were Owen Raper and Matthew York.

In the quarters they played an on-form Marton FC A and beat them 2-0. Rangers scorer was Nathan Wilson with two.

The semis saw them play against a strong North Ormesby A side which produced some good football by both teams, however, Rangers booked their place in the final from a superb goal from Matthew York, score 1-0.

The final was against the other host team Kader A who they won beat 2-1. Rangers scorer was Nathan Wilson with a brace. The overall man of the match award went to Rangers player David Johnston who, in the final, made an excellent run down the right wing taking on four players. Well done to David and the rest of the team for a brilliant display.

Mount Pleasant Rangers Reds played against Catterick B and won 2-0. Rangers scorers were Josh Newton and Ryan Turbett. They then played against North Ormesby A who won 4-1. Rangers scorer was Josh Newton.

The next game saw them settle for a 0-0 draw against Nunthorpe and this draw gave Mount Pleasant enough points to go through to the quarters and play Kader A.

But after a hard-fought game Mount Pleasant lost to only one goal. All the lads played really well with Josh Newton putting on an outstanding display throughout the tournament.

Its worth noting that after taking part in 12 tournaments this summer this age group alone has won ten of them which is an excellent tally.

The Under-12s Mount Pleasant Rangers A played against Marton HD in the first game and after some good pressure were beaten 2-0. They then held Nunthorpe to a 0-0 draw before managing a repeat result against Kader A.

They then played against Guisbrough and won 1-0. Rangers scorer was Thomas Turnbull. The last game of the group stage saw the lads against North Ormesby who they held to a 0-0 draw which was enough to see them into the quarters to play FC Wanderers who beat them 1-0.

Mount Pleasant Rangers B played FC Wanderers who beat them 7-0. Next game saw Rangers get a goal-less draw against Fishburn Boys. They then played Kader B who, after some good football from both teams, won 1-0. They then played Sutton and got another draw, this time 1-1, Rangers scorer, Scott Leighton. The last group game was against Guisbrough who beat them 4-0.

The Under-11s also played an 11-a-side friendly on Sunday against Kader and were beaten 5-3. Rangers scorers were Nathan Wilson, Ryan Turbett and Owen Raper.

The Under-8s were also in action at the weekend playing a friendly against Hartlepool Premier Soccer and Rangers won the game 2-1. Rangers scorers were Sam England and Cory Aldus. Man of the match was Karl Hastie. This is only the second competitive game this team has played together so well done to everyone for such an excellent performance.

Auckland & District EBAC Youth League

A brand new Under-18 boys soccer side from Meadowfield has joined the League to bring the competition up to nine teams.

Secretary David Clennell is the moving force behind the new team, although he has had some help from his mother Irene who put up the cash for the league fees.

"We hope to pay her back soon," said Clennell, who has made an application to the local Parish Council for funds.

Clennell previously ran Browney FC when they won the Durham Minor Cup in the 1970s, and he also had a season in charge of the former Brandon junior side in the 1980s.

"There has been no junior football team in this area for at least ten years," said Clennell, "but there is a nucleus of talent at Brandon Youth club and that helped me decide to set up a team."

Clennell's son Andrew and Dean Crampton, son of assistant Henry Crampton who has been with New Durham in the Durham District League, are two of the new team. The club will be based at the Meadowfield Sports Centre.

Newton Aycliffe are the other new side joining the league this season, and they will meet visit Meadowfield on the first day of the season. "It would be nice to get one more side into the league to make it an even ten clubs," said league secretary Bob Farms, who would be happy to hear from any more prospective new members. He can be contacted on (01388) 818192.

The league starts on Saturday, August 31. If the membership remains at nine, Ferryhill juniors will be the odd club without a fixture on the opening day.

Fixtures, Saturday, August 31: Barnard Castle v Coundon & Leeholme, Chilton YC v Willington, Meadowfield v Newton Aycliffe, Spennymoor Legion v Bishop Auckland.
