A PET show with a difference is heading for the region later this month.

There will not be any live animals at the event, at the World of James Herriot museum, in Thirsk, North Yorkshire.

The museum is playing host to Poppet's Peculiar Petshop Show - complete with an array of pet puppets.

Aimed at three to eight-year-olds, the show will promote the care of domestic pets along with animals in the wild.

"Visitors to the centre will meet Roly the rabbit, Geek the Beak and Cheeky the monkey while also learning about responsible animal care," said Lisa Martin, museum education officer.

Poppet the Clown and all her friends will be giving four shows.

They will also be in the centre all day to talk to youngsters and their families.

The Petshop Shows are at 11.30am, 1pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm at the centre, in Kirkgate, on Bank Holiday Monday, August 26.

Normal admission rates will apply.
