SHERIFF Hutton Bridge made sure of their first ever Pilmoor Evening League championship when they easily beat Alne to hold off the challenge of Sessay, who finished two points behind.

The situation is less clear at the foot of the table. Huby are relegated, but who accompanies them is still to be decided.

Tollerton, who have completed their fixtures, are level on 11 points with Easingwold and Crayke, who have yet to play their fixture from July 31.

The league management committee have ruled that this fixture must be played and the losers will play Tollerton in a relegation play-off.

Newburgh are second division champions, having gone through the season undefeated, and Stillington will be promoted in second place despite losing to Newburgh in their last game.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge had little difficulty gaining the win they required to make sure of their first title. Alne batted first and, although Tom Ryder made 49 not out, they were held to 76-4, with Mike Smith taking 2-6.

Geoff Schofield (38no) and Nick Scaling (26no) then took Bridge to another comfortable win at 79-1.

Sessay also had a comfortable win when they visited Crayke, who now find themselves in a late season relegation struggle. S Lewis made 20, but Crayke could only reach 48-5, Steve Frare taking 2-2.

Mike Megson (24no) anchored Sessay's reply of 51-4, Peter Carr (2-19) bowling tidily for Crayke.

Easingwold won an important match at the foot of the table when they beat Tollerton.

Tommy Langstaff (21) and Trevor Smith (36no) did most to take Easingwold to 98-5, R Clarke (2-28) having the best return for Tollerton.

Smith (3-12) then starred with the ball as he and T Marshall (2-22) did most to hold Tollerton in check at 55-7.

Huby's season ended in another defeat when they entertained Thirsk. Martin Piercy made an unbeaten 46 to lift the home side to 105-8, Mark Cook (3-31), M Almond (2-33) and N Laidlaw (2-18) being the most successful bowlers for Thirsk.

Dean Bramley (38no) and John Cook (39) were then prominent in Thirsk's winning reply of 107-3.

Newburgh completed their all-conquering season with a big win over nearest rivals Stillington.

Rob Proudley (65) and Stuart Pierse (31) were their top scorers as they reached 134-4.

Only Matthew Coulson (3-29) had any real success for Stillington, whose reply never got off the ground and closed on 47-8, Stuart Pierse taking 2-16, Jason Sargent 2-9 and Paul Doy 2-0.

Clifton Alliance were hoping to take advantage of any Stillington slip when they visited Rowntrees.

They reached 91, John Bladen making 41 as Will Burns took 3-12 and J Burrows 2-11 for Rowntrees. Ten-year-old Matthew Homer took 1-4.

The Rowntrees reply was led by Charlie Roberts (33) and Paul Homer (29) and, although W Roe took 2-17, the home side took the points at 92-5 to leave Clifton still a point behind Stillington.

Raskelf's difficult season ended with a win when they entertained Sheriff Hutton.

The visitors batted first and Craig Dodsworth top-scored with 24 as they reached 78-8, 14-year-old Will Reynolds being Raskelf's most successful bowler with 4-11.

Ross Hardy led Raskelf's reply with 27, but Tony Fisher took 3-5 to set up a tight finish in which Raskelf scraped home by two wickets for their third win of the season
