A SCHEME to pull down Knaresborough's former High Street Post Office and replace it with flats, an office and a retail area, is facing resistance.

When members of an area planning committee meet on Tuesday, in Knaresborough, planning officers will recommend refusal of the application.

Although the building is not listed, it is considered that it makes a positive contribution to the character and appearance of the town's conservation area.

Developers want to create a three-storey building fronting High Street.

One representation supporting the application said the building was of little architectural merit and unsuitable for conversion.
