Georgie train driver turned pop hopeful Aaron Bayley is looking forward to performing at the Orange Darlington Festival for the first time Sunday.

The former Pop Idol hopeful, whose rendition of Walking in Memphis captured the hearts of thousands who voted for him in the show, will perform up to three songs at the outdoor event.

Although he is unlikely to decide exactly which songs to sing until a few hours before taking the stage in Darlington Market Square, he is fairly sure of one track.

He said: "I'm pretty unsure about what I'm going to be doing, but I'm pretty sure I will be doing Walking in Memphis.

"I'm looking forward to it. I haven't had a gig in a couple of weeks so I'm looking forward to it."

Already this year, Bayley has performed at another North-East outdoor event, the Fishquay Festival, but now he is ready to tackle a Darlington audience for the first time.

He said: "I've never played there yet, but it's up in my native North-East so I'm looking forward to it.

"I only hope the weather is good because it doesn't look very promising at the moment."

The festival will be opened by Century FM presenter Paul "Goffy" Gough at 7pm tonight(Sat) and this evening's entertainment will feature Madonna tribute Vogue and ZU2, performing the music of U2.

From 12noon tomorrow there will be street theatre, children's entertainment and the start of the festival's talent contest.

As well as Aaron Bayley, musical entertainment tomorrow night will come from Scott Adams, The Goose Horns, and more.

Monday will see similar entertainment to Sunday afternoon, including the talent contest's final, before music on the night from tributes to Westlife and Robbie Williams.
