South Shields progressed to the next stage with a three wickets victory over Houghton from the Premier Sports Durham Coast League.
Batting first Houghton totalled 76 for eight with Tim Bowman ending undefeated on 46 while for South Shields Paul Muchall was the pick of the bowlers with figures of two for 15.
When they went into bat Shields lost seven wickets and were indebted to man of the match Muchall who carried his bat for a valuable 33. Jones bowled well for Houghton and was rewarded with the excellent figures of three for 14.
