Ever Ready/Craghead took the runners-up spot in the First Division despite the frantic efforts of the visiting Crook Glenholme to prise the trophies from them.

The hosts went into the match leading Crook by ten points but with only a three shot advantage if the points became equal. This meant that the visitors had to win all ten points and the overall score by four shots or more.

Crook Glenholme came very close to achieving their aim when they won by 83 shots to 76 but were denied their prize when G. Williams snatched the final rink by just four points.

The rink scores were (ERC names first) M. English 17 D. Chard 20; A. Brown 21 A. Dunn 25; W. Kirk 19 D. McDonald 23; G. Williams 19 A. Bainbridge 15.

Langley Park expected a tough fight before they landed the Second Division Championship but as things worked out they were successful by eight points after they whitewashed the visiting Witton Gilbert and their nearest rivals, Sherburn Village went down by two points at Brandon. Langley Park beat Witton Gilbert by 86 shots to 78 with the rink scores (Langley names first) A. Calvert 21 J. Hewitt 19; D. Cassidy 22 G. Hanson 19; R. Seymour 22 D. Minns 21; D. Henderson 21 W. Sedman 19.

Murton, who have led the Third Division for most of the season, failed to land the title when they went down at the final hurdle to the visiting Cockton Hill, despite winning by 75 shots to 62 and 6 points to 4. However Murton needed to match Newton Hall to take the title but were pipped when their rivals only dropped two points to the visiting Wolsingham to take the trophy by a single point.

The rink scores at Murton with the home team first were J. Bannister 25 G. Mawson 14; J. Garston 15 I. McDougall 17; N. Jubb 16 T. Turnbull 18; R. Spindler 19 L. Samson 13.

The League Executive Committee took two far-reaching decisions when they will make Coxhoe and Mainsforth apply for re-election for next season after they failed to complete their fixtures on time and they deducted ten points from Stockton for failing to complete a league fixture and opting to play a different match instead.

The League's Annual Presentation Evening will be held at Kelloe Club on October 4. Tickets must be ordered through secretaries.
