AN exhibition of photographs dedicated to the ill-fated hospital ship Rohilla has been extended for another week.

The display at Whitby Archives and Heritage Centre features previously unpublished pictures, a slide show of the vessel and a video showing underwater shots of the ship, which foundered off the North Yorkshire coast in 1914.

COURSE DATES: A maths and English course being run by Easingwold Community Education is starting next week. The free course lasts 30 weeks and will be held in Easingwold School on Mondays and Tuesdays. Full details are available on (01347) 821451.

FLOODS PROGRESS: Work on Norton's flood defences is to progress to the next phase as contractors finish moving a gas main on the site. Gas company Transco has announced that it has completed its part of the work on the Mill Beck pumping station.

EVENT OFF: Alne Hall Cheshire Home, near Easingwold, has had to cancel an evening of light entertainment arranged for Friday, September 20, because of unforeseen circumstances.

CHURCH CONCERT: Easingwold's town band will perform in the village church at Dalton, near Thirsk, tomorrow, from 7.30pm.

MP'S VISIT: Richmond MP William Hague, accompanied by Shadow Health Secretary Dr Liam Fox, will visit the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton tomorrow afternoon.
