GUCCI and Prada supplier Dawson International reported a slump in half-year sales after being rocked by the tough global economy.

The cashmere specialist also said a full recovery in the rest of the year was unlikely.

Dawson, from Kinross, Tayside, procures raw cashmere fibre from goat herds in Inner Mongolia and spins the yarn in Scotland.

It supplies designers, including Prada, Gucci, Burberry and Clements Ribeiro, and has its own range under the Ballantyne Cashmere brand.

Turnover for the six months to June 29 fell from £37.5m to £24m while pre-tax losses widened from £2.3m to £6.1m.
