CITY car parking information is now available online with the launch of a website.

Newcastle City Council has created the website at www.newcastle.gov.uk/parking to make car parking easier for visitors.

It includes a downloadable map pinpointing car parks and details of all parking schemes, as well as information on Shopmobility, car crime and blue badges. The online service will be developed in the coming months to provide links to places of interest and online applications for permits.

In future, it is hoped that it will include information on parking availability and the booking of spaces.

Newcastle City Council operates six city centre multi-storey car parks and 38 off-street car parks, as well as 2,200 on-street parking spaces. Visitors to the website will receive details of costs, and opening hours.

But following a decision by Gateshead Council to double parking charges at Gateshead Quays from £1 to £2, Newcastle City Council is also considering introducing an increase outside the city centre.
