Willington under-18 juniors, who won three trophies last season, continued the defence of the Auckland and District EBAC Youth League Cup with a midweek 2-0 victory in group one away to Bishop Auckland, the team they beat in last year's final.

John Richardson and Lee Jenner scored early in the second half to give Willington their second win in the competition.

Spennymoor Legion gained their first league cup win, a hat trick from Terry Garside contributing to their 4-2 success at home to Chilton YC. Andrew Spence was the other Legion scorer, Michael Carr and Tony Stubbins on target for Chilton.

Ferryhill made it two wins out of two in group two with a 5-3 victory over visitors Meadowfield. Ryan Kitelly (2), Chris Dixon (2) and Phil Sheehan scored for the Ferryhill lads, Andrew Graham getting all three goals for Meadowfield.

Newton Aycliffe drew 1-1 at home to Coundon & Leeholme. Martin Smailes put the Aycliffe lads in front at the start of the second half, Dale Jardine equalising with 15 minutes to go.

Coundon & Leeholme returned to league action on Saturday, their 4-2 success at home to Spennymoor Legion putting them three points clear at the top of the table. Coundon came back from two goals down to take the points with goals from Anthony Ebdon, Sean Carling and Daniel Wales (2). Jordan Bulmer and Terry Garside scored for Spennymoor who finished the game with only ten men due to injury after only having eleven players available.

Willington won 6-0 away to Meadowfield whose goalkeeper took an injury in the first half and had to come off at half time. Daniel Lee (2), Lee Jenner, Lee Thirkell, Robert Punshon and Sean Brown got the goals.

Newton Aycliffe won 3-2 at Ferryhill with Mark Butt, Richard Dimambro and Paul Walker on target. Chris Dixon got both goals for Ferryhill.

The game between Barnard Castle and Chilton was called off as Chilton were unable to raise a full side.

Willington

Willington Boys under-16s defeated visitors Hartlepool St. Francis 2-0 in the first round of the Durham County Cup. Martin Hopps got both goals for Willington, with Chris Hutton MoM.

The Willington under-14s lost 6-2 at home to Boldon Colts in the first round of the Russell Foster Junior League Cup after pulling back from 2-0 down to 2-2. MoM Lewis Hopps scored both goals for Willington.

In the Russell Foster short-sided leagues, Willington under-10s gained two victories, 3-1 over Sunderland Belford House and 2-0 against Town Castle Rovers. Jordan Roberts, Andrew Stubbs and Matt Cooper scored in the first game, with Cooper outstanding. Jack Davison and Roberts again were on target in the second match.

Willington under-nines secured two hard-fought wins, beating Belford House 1-0 and Easington 2-0. David Nelson (2) and Luke Elmes got the goals in two fine team performances.

Rohn and Haas JOC Hetton Youth League

Lumley made it three wins out of three defeating Sacriston 14-0. Five goals ahead at the half way stage, the Cestrians dominated throughout and the goals flowed from Simon Dolman (5), John Lidster (3), Lee Smith (3), Mark Younger, Michael Collins and Christopher Yates.

Lumley share the leadership with Ryhope who have also won their first three fixtures. Their latest success came at the expense of Hebburn who lost for the third successive match going down 5-0 to the Wearsiders.

Shaun Petch banked a brace of goals and other on the mark were Glen Bosh, Paul Fenwick and Mark Egglestone. Both Herrington and Jarrow St Bedes have won their first two fixtures but were without a match at the weekend.

Fairs Software Tyneside Junior League

Otwo games went ahead and Walker Central maintained their 100 per cent record with a 3-1 victory at home to West Denton. Paul Mills and Scott McDonald netted for Walker in the first period when West Denton replied through Steve Dodds. The visitors had an opportunity to level before Mills scored his second goal and help earn Walker Central their fifth consecutive victory. Walker Central lead the table by six points from Redheugh and in the other match to be played Whitley Bay secured their first win in four attempts with a 4-2 victory at Prudhoe Town where Colin Law (2), Phil Gray and Chris Johnson were the marksmen. Graham Hall and David Lucas replied for Prudhoe Town.

Riverside

Riverside under 8s excellent run continued when they beat Wearmouth Girls 10-0 and Birtley Town 3-0. Scorers against Wearmouth were Hughes (3) , Roberts (2), Holland (2), Ryan(2) and Herron. Hughes (2) and Ryan were on target against Birtley.

In the under 9's second Division Riverside beat Durham County 3-0 thanks to goals from Smith(2) and Thompson. They then went on to beat Fulwell 1-0 Anderson getting the all important goal. In the under 9's Premier League Riverside RAR had a disappointing day loosing to both Barnes Mac's and Chester Athletic. Goals from Danny Jackson and Christopher Martin gave Riverside Under 10's victory over Barnes Mac's. In their second game they were beaten 2-0 by Lampton Street Hornets.

The under 11's drew 1-1 with Byers Green. Byers went ahead in the first half but Riverside pressure eventually paid off when Simon Towers knocked in a cross from Jake Clark.

The under 12's made three wins out of three by beating Whitburn and Cleadon 9-1 at the Hermitage. Riverside scorers were Kane Haig (4), Campbell Bell (3) and Liam Thompson and man of the match was Mark Broom.

The under 13's took a first half lead against Plains Farm thanks to an Adam Barker goal. Unfortunately, despite dominating most of the game, Riverside were unable to convert pressure into goals and two second half breakaway goals from Plains Farm gave them a very fortunate 2-1 victory.

Richmond and District JSFL 13/14s

Hungry Jacks of Northallerton travelled to Bedale on the opening day of the season and beat Bedale 13s 4-1, in an exciting game. Hungry Jacks edged the first half 2-1 with goals from Jason Bradley and Daniel Baxter. Two further goals from Daniel Baxter completing his hat trick secured the points in a thrilling match. Man of the match, Daniel Wright.

Byers Green

Byers gained there first win of the season with a 5-3 victory away at Willington. Byers took the lead early on with a well worked goal scored by Michael Condron who had an outstanding game, but Byers did not sit back and continued to play good flowing football and increased their lead further through Condron who finished superbly again. Willington pulled a goal back before half-time. But early in the second half Byers regained their two goal cushion through Condron, who completed his hat trick. Midway through the second half Byers scored again through Adam Peart, this started a mini revival by Willington as they scored two quick goals. Byers picked up the tempo again and sealed the victory with a fine individual goal by Reece Ellis late in stoppage time.

Catterick Juniors

Catterick kicked off the season away to Northallerton Town U10's both Catterick A and B teams tasted victory.

Results as follows: Northallerton Town A 0 Catterick A 2; Northallerton Town B 0 Catterick B 5; Northallerton Town B 2 Catterick A 5; Northallerton Town A 2 Catterick B 2.

Goals scorers for Catterick A were Stevie Hood,Jak Jex,Levi Shaw,Arron Mornington, man of the match were Jak Jex and Lewis Hamilton. B Team scorers were Joe Inglis,Ben Holcomb,Craig McClaren,Nathen Yeadon,MOTM Ryan Brownnand Joe Inglis.

Brompton

THE U10s started the season with a successful opener against Richmond Town in what proved to be a very entertaining encounter for players and spectators alike. Brompton finished on top during a series of mini soccer matches results being 1-0, 2-1 and 6-0 to Brompton and 1-2 to Richmond. Scorers for Brompton were Andrew Caisley, Martin Clark, Sam Windross, Ben Wilson, Will Middleton (2) Patrick Hebbelthwaite (2) and Ben Gledhill (2).

Brompton U11s were keen to make a good impression during this the first game of the season in the Richmond & District League against Darlington Albion. Brompton broke free early on and Tom Bunn scored. Robert Milner in goal for the home side was kept busy throughout a frenetic ten minute period. Eventually the pressure told and Albion equalised from a corner kick. Josh Knox, having a good game beat a number of defenders before executing a long range shot that crept in at the far post. Some indecision at the back allowed Albion to equalise once again and they went into the lead almost from the restart after a fine individual run.

Several opportunities went begging at either end before Bunn scored his second to tie the game at 3-3.

Brompton U16s put in a strong performance playing against their local rivals Northallerton and ran out winners 3-2 with goals from Ian Duffus and two from Man of the Match Colin Clemmit.

To complete a successful day, Brompton U17s tasted cup glory in the Teesside Junior League Cup beating Wolviston 7-3. Stimson, Vernalls (2), McNichol (2), super sub Craven and an own goal scored for Wolviston. Brompton have a third successive home game next weekend against Coulby Newham.

Blackfyne

The Under 8s beat Winlaton 4-0 with goals from Peter Leech (2 both pens), Keiran Martin and Jonathan Telford. Phil McConnell was Man of the match.

Blackfyne Under 9s Greens beat Felling A 1-0 with a goal from John Meadows. Andrew Turnbull was MoM. Blackfyne Gold drew 0-0 with Winlaton and Liam Smith was MoM.

The Under 10s Blackfyne Bullets beat Dunwhick 3 - 0 with Peter Westgarth scoring a penalty and Benjamin Camsell (MoM) the other two.

Blackfyne Gunners were beaten 8-1 by Beamish with Chris Ledger scoring the goal and receiving MoM.

Blackfyne Under 11s beat Felling Magpies 5-1 and the under 12s beat Chopwell 5-0 with Danny Walker (3), Andrew Rennoldson and Michael Robson scoring the goals. Michael Robson was also voted MoM.

The Under 14s ran out easy winners beating Consett 5-0. Lee Calvert was MoM and scored four with Shaun Donaghy scoring the other one.

The Under 17s competed in the DACYP competition and beat Cleveland Hall 2- 0 to go into the semi-finals. Robbie Blemings and Gavin Clark scored the goals and Dan Clark was MoM.

In the League they beat West Denton 4-2 with Robbie Blemings (MoM) scoring (2) and Craig Nichol and Shaun Hodgson hitting one each.

Apollo Doors Gateshead Youth League

Connor Cruddace struck four times in Blackfyne's 5-1 defeat at Felling Magpies in the U11 division. Heworth sent Consett crashing to a 9-0 reverse while two goals apiece from Jake Day and Tom Goldsmith earned Redheugh a 4-1 win at home to Prudhoe. The goals also flowed when Hebburn Reyrolle ended 8-1 in front of Leam Rangers. Most of the goals came from Stuart Smith (3), Josh Middleton (2) and Darren Baird (2).

At U12 level, a top individual performance came from Scott Anderson, who recorded a hat-trick as Leam Rangers Y defeated Blaydon by a nine-goal margin.

Both Whickham Fellside R and Leam Rangers G won 4-0, defeating Consett and Cleveland Hall respectively.

In the U13 division, a hat-trick from Stephen Edwards was a feature of Cleveland Hall's victory over Low Fell C. Ryan Laidler bagged a brace of goals as Low Fell B ended 5-0 winners over Leam Rangers.

The biggest win in the section was recorded by Whickham Glebe, 9-0 victors against Cooperhall.

At U15 level, Stocksfield and Redheugh drew 0-0 and in the other three games three sides scored five times.

Blaydon won 5-1 at Consett, Leam Rangers defeated Beamish 5-0 while Blackfyne went to Rutherford and returned with a 5-3 result in their favour.
