FOR the first time a special collection of the powerfully evocative sky and landscapes by award winning artist, Lawrence Coulson, will be on show outside of a large city.

The chosen venue is the Wensleydale Framing and Fine Art Gallery in Leyburn.

This year Coulson won the Fine Art Trade Guild award for the best up-and-coming published artist. His collection of exclusive limited editions entitled Moods is on show in Leyburn for a week starting on Saturday, October 5.

Much of the inspiration for this exhibition has come from the huge empty beaches along the Norfolk coast with more and more the light within the painting becoming his central theme, he said.

"More of the image is taken up by sky, for this gives the light, therefore, the mood of the painting. The landscape is almost incidental." He also accepts that he has been influenced by his all-time favourite artist, Turner.

Not surprisingly, therefore, his art is emotive and thought-provoking. Even small copies are awe inspiring, with some of his skies verging on the gothic in their intensity.

There's a rich and fascinating tapestry of work by other artists on show at the gallery which is open from 8.30 to 5.30 on weekdays, 9pm to 5pm on Saturday and, just for this exhibition, from 10am to 4pm on Sunday, October 6.
