A MAN has told of his shock after being robbed in broad daylight outside a bank.

Neville Roberts, 63, was picking up wages for the paper boys and girls of our sister paper, The East Cleveland Advertiser, when he was mugged.

He was outside Barclays in Queen Street, Redcar when the robber pushed him in the back and snatched £250 from his hand at about 12.30pm on Tuesday.

The mugger then ran along an alleyway towards Redcar Esplanade.

Mr Roberts, a distribution supervisor for Northern Echo owners Newsquest, said: "I was pushed and sort of staggered without falling but the money was already taken from my hand. It had been done in one easy move and was over in a second. It was an awful thing to happen, we've just got to hope those who did it are brought to justice."

Police have charged a man and a woman with the crime. However, Detective Sergeant Paul Richardson said police still urgently needed witnesses to come forward. He can be contacted on (01642) 302626.
