OLDER people in the Hambleton and Richmondshire areas are being given the chance to express their opinions on a range of issues at an event at Bedale Hall, on November 1, from 10am and 4pm.

New nursery: York's Labour MP Hugh Bayley and Lord Mayor David Horton will today formally open the new nursery at Clifton Green primary school.

MP's surgery: The Tory MP for the Vale of York, Anne McIntosh, will be holding an open constituency advice surgery at the MacDonald's restaurant on Clifton Moor, York, tomorrow, between 10.30am and noon. No appointment is necessary.

Road closure: Motorists in Hambleton are being warned of the temporary closure of the Ainderby Quernhow to Sinderby road, between Thirsk and Ripon, for mains repairs. The closure is scheduled to last from Monday until Friday.

Coffee break: Yorkshire Tory Euro-MP Timothy Kirkhope will join fundraisers in Northallerton for a coffee morning at the town hall to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Relief today. The event is part of the World's Biggest Coffee Morning.

Concert date: The Staithes Fishermen's Choir will be giving a concert at the Methodist Church at Romanby, Northallerton, on October 4, at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 and include refreshments.

Charity show: As part of Northallerton Methodist Church's harvest celebrations, the Felling Male Voice Choir will give a concert on October 5, at 7pm. The proceeds are in aid of the local branch of the Samaritans. Tickets cost £5 and are available from Greensleeves in the Central Arcade.

Mast rejected: An appeal against Hambleton District Council's decision to refuse permission to erect a 20m mast at Little Holtby, Northallerton, has been dismissed by planning inspector Ava Wood.
