ADAM RUNDLE returns to training at Darlington today after his loan move to Carlisle United collapsed.

Carlisle boss Roddy Collins wanted the 18-year-old to sign on a temporary basis for the remainder of the season.

However, as Rundle is yet to sign a professional contract at Feethams - he remains on scholarship terms - he is now back with Darlington after the proposed move broke down.

The Tyneside youngster had agreed to a move to the Cumbrians and he trained with the club on Wednesday.

However, as Northern Echo Sport revealed yesterday, the deal could not go through and now he will train with the Quakers this morning.

Just yesterday Darlington chairman George Reynolds challenged Carlisle to complete a swap deal for their highly-rated striker Richie Foran.

But nothing materialised and now Rundle, whose contract runs out next summer, is expected to be named in Darlington manager Tommy Taylor's squad for the trip to Leyton Orient tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Darlington skipper Craig Liddle has had stitches taken out of his leg injury sustained at York.

But the club's inspirational skipper is not expected to be fit until next Saturday's match at home to Bristol Rovers.

And Taylor said: "I think this Saturday will come too soon for Craig.

"But he has had his stitches out and he should be OK for the Bristol Rovers game."

But Taylor praised centre-backs Matt Clarke and David McGurk for their performances against Wrexham, a game which his side lost 1-0 on Tuesday.

"The two centre-halves did well," he said. "But I thought the whole team could have improved really.

"It was the passing that caused us the most problems, we need to start passing the ball like we do on the training ground."
