REDCAR'S most valuable race of the season, the £150,000 betabet sponsored Two-Year-Old Trophy, has once again attracted a fabulously competitive 19-runner field, writes Colin Woods.

There are some really classy youngsters in the line-up, none more so than the Michael Jarvis-trained Sarayat (4.10). A son of the sensational sire, Polar Falcon, Jarvis' youngster has yet to finish out of the first three on his four outings to date.

Sarayat stormed on to the two-year-old stage with an exhilarating three-length success on his debut at Leicester in May and has since hardly put a foot wrong, including when a close third to Sheikh Mohammed's highly-rated colt Dublin in the Group 3 Champagne Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.

And neither will Sarayat's regular rider, Philip Robinson, be worrying too much about pre-race tactics, because his mount has a totally uncomplicated style of running - blast out of the gates and keep going for as long as possible!

Nor is the prevailing fast ground of any concern to the selection, he positively bounces off it. But if, as expected, Sarayat blazes out of the stalls and tries to make all, Robinson could well spy one of the principal dangers, Richard Hannon's Presto Vento, in his wing mirrors.

Hannon's youngster is due to be ridden by Dean McKeown, who partnered the East Everleigh trainer's Pips Pride to victory in 1992, plus landed the spoils aboard Richard Whitaker's Captain Rio 12 months ago.

"Presto Vento is rated 100 and has already won one of the valuable Sales races," said McKeown. The race to which the Yorkshire-based jockey refers was the £78,500 Weatherbys Super Sprint, picked up by Presto Vento at Newbury in July.

The form of that particular contest couldn't have worked out any better with the second home, Wunders Dream, subsequently bolting up in the Group 3 Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster's St Leger meeting.
