Newton Aycliffe sisters Kayleigh and Charlotte Edge have come first and second respectively in the national Young Environmentalist of the Year awards in London.
Nine-year-old Kayleigh and eight-year-old Charlotte both attend Woodham Burn Primary School.
Mum Mandy Edge works at GlaxoSmithKline in Barnard Castle, one of the competition sponsors.
