Anchor Inn 1 v 4 Gt Ayton Utd

Great Ayton took command of the game early, two goals in the first ten minutes put the Anchor defence under pressure from kick off.

A move down the right found Snaith, who cleverly beat his marker to pass for Lane to beat Stinton in the Anchor goal. Ayton continued to gain possession of the ball and increased their lead when :Long headed down a well flighted free kick for Ripley to tap into an open goal. Good defending was then required by Ayton as Scott for the Anchor started to dominate the midfield. Sonley in goal had to be alert to stop two fierce shots as Anchor came more into the game. As the game progressed it became a more end to end affair but Ayton increased their lead when Leng put a perfect ball through from midfield for Snaith to beat the defence with his pace and, with a one to one with the keeper place the ball into the net to give Ayton a comfortable half time lead. Both teams enjoyed good possession in the second half with the Anchor pushing forward in search of goals. They were rewarded following a succession of corners, the Ayton defence failed to clear and Hetherington forced the ball home from close range. Ayton made the game safe when a long ball from Scott cleared the Anchor defence for Snaith to run on to beat the advancing keeper and have an easy tap in for the fourth goal.

Boosbeck Utd 1 v 1 Annandale Hotel

Credit is due to both sides who tried to play good football in very heavy conditions. Annandale showed first with Adam Booth causing problems fro Boosbeck's rear guard. Boosbeck gave away a free kick on the right, the ball was floated into the goalmouth where Boosbeck's keeper seemed to be impeded and the ball ran loose for Berry to stab the ball home. Boosbeck then attacked with Craig Winter running down the right, taking on the Annandale defence before crossing into the box for Johnson, who just failed to connect. Winter was involved again as he ran onto a long through ball from Crawford and just beat the keeper to place the ball into the net for the equaliser. The game was played end to end from then on with very few scoring chances. In the closing minutes Johnson chipped the keeper but the ball stuck in the mud and was cleared by a defender.

Goldsborough 4 v 0 Grangetown YCC

Goldsborough took the lead after only five minutes when man of the match Mikey Dent ran onto a through ball and placed it into the corner of the net. Excellent work by the Goldsborough midfield pairing of Stewart and Welford ensured that they dominated possession and after 20 minutes dent turned his defender to shoot past the keeper, then 5 minutes later, after good work by Raine on the right wing, a fierce shot by Bagshaw from the left of the box made it 3 - 0. A fourth was added a coule of minutes later through Dent, from close range. Dent came close again but his well taken shot hit the post. In the second half Grangetown pressed forward in search of a goal but solid work from Cleaver and Lithe enabled Goldsborough to keep a clean sheet. Goldsborough had further chances to score but Grangetown keeper Chris Moore made some fine saves.

Lealholm 1 v 3 Highland Laddie

An uneventful first half saw very few scoring chances and it wasn't until five minutes before the break that any real action occurred. A Carruthers shot almost took Lealholm into the lead following a corner but the ball hit the woodwork, the ball was cleared to the other end of the pitch and Adrian Brown put it into the back of the net to give Laddie a slender lead. Laddie began the second half as slightly the better team but after 15 minutes Lealholm levelled after Marne ran down the wing, passed to Dowson who was tripped in the penalty area, Philip Brown converting wel, Laddie soon went ahead again when the Lealholm defence missed two or three attempts to clear a corner and the resulting scramble gave Lowther the chance to score. For the final 20 minutes Lealholm seemed to go to pieces and Laddie finished the game off when a long ball, which Carruthers tried to cut out, was flicked into the air, Keeper Gibson scrambled to save the own goal but with both players on the ground the ball bounced back into play for Adrian brown to net his second.

Staithes Ath 4 v 5 Brotton WMC

With both teams yet to lose a match in the league this was always going to be a hard fought game. Brotton went ahead in the 5th minute, Ward netting a well placed shot from 18 yards. Staithes settled and had a lot of the first half play making the Brotton defence uneasy. A 7th minute penalty gave Staithes a chance to level but Townend made an excellent save from a Simon Bowes shot. The home team continued to press forward and 5 minutes later Libby scored the equaliser. A few minutes later Townend once again made a good save when Shane Gibson fired a shot from 20 yards. A 15th minute penalty, this time in Brotton's favour was Converted well by Ward. Staithes came back again with Bedingfield finding the target to make it 2 - 2. The rest of the first half saw a lot of pressure from Staithes but Brotton held out until the half time whistle. In the second half both teams played attacking football, Brotton going ahead again after five minutes when an excellent ball from Bushby put Ward through to complete his hat trick. Once again however Staithes came back, Beddingfield scoring a good goal, coming in from the left wing. A flicked header from a free kick by Scott restored Brotton's lead only for Staithes to level again five minutes later with a close range header from Hampton. The game looked like finishing with honours even the, with 5 minutes to go Bushby went up for a corner and scored with a scrambled goal. This time Brotton managed to hang on to their lead in what had been a gameplayed in excellent spirit, with some good football played on a heavy pitch. Richard Ward was excellent in the Staithes midfield but Wards hat-trick gave him man of the match.
