Sunderland Arrows are still unbeaten and lead the English Under-16 North B league. Their latest victory was a 10-0 away win at Nottingham Jaguars.

The match was over as a contest after the first period as Arrows went 5-0 ahead. Dean Holland gave his side the lead on 03.30 and Jeremy Lundin a second at 05.23. This was when Arrows short-handed following Jamie Smithson receiving five plus game misconduct for checking from behind. Daniel Murdy, Holland and Shane Hewitt were on target for the 5- 0 advantage.

Liam Pattison added a sixth with the only goal of the middle period on the powerplay at 38.01. Chris Hayes, John Wilson, and a hat trick marker from Holland completed the scoring in the final period.

Billingham Bears entertain Blackburn Fire Hawks in an Under-16 challenge match at forum Ice Arena. Bears in mid-table in North A league faced Fire Hawks, Blackburn's second string who are in the lower reaches of North B League.

James Udell put Bears ahead at 02.43 and he scored a second seven minutes later. Udell's hat trick marker came at 31.11 to make it 3-0.

David Thompson bagged a brace which included a penalty shot increased the score to 5-0 at 37.51. The goals coming 33 seconds apart.

Blackburns two consolation goals were struck at 38.47 and 42.03. Udell's fourth and Bears sixth sandwiches between them on 40.02.

Sunderland Tomahawks were 13-2 winners at bradford Vipers in an Under-19 challenge. Tomahawks without a point in North A league met a Bradford side in the B league. Tomahawks went 2-0 ahead at 06.58 with a Shane Hewitt brace. Vipers cut the deficit before Keith Barker and Michael Allinson put the Sunderland 4-1 ahead at the first interval.

Sunderland well in control extended their lead to 11-1 after two periods as Allinson (4), Dean Holland, Jonathan Heslop and Adam Kelly were on target. Barker became the second Tomahawk's player to score a hat trick in this match with two goals in the final period. Bradford's second goal came with five minutes to go.

Sunderland Commanches were 9-4 victors at Bradford Buccaneers in an Under-14 challenge. The match was played over four 15 minute periods. Three goals in under a minute from Karl Nelson, Callum Pattison and Nathan Salem gave Sunderland a 3-0 lead at 09.19.

Bradford opened their account seven minutes later before Salem and Grant Sharp put Sunderland 5-1 ahead after 22 minutes. Buccaneers were on target twice by the end of the third period.

James Moutrey struck Commanches sixth five minutes into the fourth period only the for home side to get their fourth two minutes later. Pattison, Salem for his hat trick and Sharp completed the scoring with late goals for Sunderland.

Whitley Arrows gained a very valuable 2-1 win at Blackburn Sparrowhawks in English Under-12 North a League. A very close contest saw Whitley take the lead at 11.16 through their leading scorer Callum Watson. Blackburn equalised a minute later and the winner coming with five minutes to go with Watson's goal of the game.

English National Hockey League North

Billingham Bombers tasted victory and defeat in the league last weekend. On home ice on Saturday bottom of the table Grismsby Buffaloes were the visitors to the Forum Ice Arena Grimsby travelled north with only eight skaters and one netminder, went behind at 09.24 with a Paul Windridge goal.

Andrew Fletcher and Windridge were on target in the second period for a 3-1 lead. A Martin Lewis hat trick, a Simon Hehir double plus Windridge scored in the final period as Bombers won 9-1.

Several senior players did not make the trip for Bombers match at League leaders Sheffield Scimitars. David Thomas was on England Under-20 duty, in the English Premier League at Nottingham Sheffield led 2-0 before Bombers drew level at 16.41 through Windridge and Lewis. Scimitars regained the lead in the final minute of the first period. Five without reply in the second stretched Sheffield's advantage to 8-2. Windridge netted Bombers' third on the powerplay at 51.51 and the scoring was completed by Sheffield with two goals ion the 58th minute. Top scorer for Scimitars was Les Millie with four goals and he will be playing for Newcastle KBS Vipers in this weekend's Findus Challenge Cup Semi-Final at Telewest Arena.

Whitley Warriors returned to winning ways with a 12-2 victory over neighbours Sunderland Chiefs at Hillheads. Paul Graham (2), Bryan Dunn, Paul Matthews and Andrew Carter gave Whitley a 5-0 lead before Chiefs scored at 27.42, Shaun Black and again six minutes later from Jonathan Heslop.

Chiefs' netminder John Worrall getting in the way of several shots to deny Warriors before Rory Dunn took over at 42.43 with Whitley 7-2 ahead. Graham, Kevin Bucas (2), Dunn, Andrew Tindale, Lee Baxter and Robert Cairns scoring the final period goals.
