FANS last night renewed demands for the resignation of disgraced Newcastle United chief Douglas Hall in the wake of fresh allegations involving call girls.

They branded the vice-chairman a "disgrace to the club" after a Sunday newspaper printed claims that Hall, together with former Manchester United chairman Martin Edwards, had paid large sums of cash to cavort with prostitutes.

It is alleged that the incident happened while the pair were staying in a £250-a-night hotel in Geneva, Switzerland - hours before the Champions League second phase draw.

The married father-of-two, who is Newcastle's major shareholder, was supposed to be in the city as an ambassador for the club.

The latest allegation has brought renewed pressure for the 44-year-old to resign after it was recently revealed that he received £524,257 in pay and bonuses last year - a 376 per cent rise on the previous year.

Shareholders were told that Mr Hall ran Newcastle International from an office in Gibraltar and was involved in finding new venture opportunities in China.

Last night, No9 fanzine editor Steve Wraith said: "He's an absolute disgrace. The man has got to go. This is the final nail in the coffin for me. I've given him the benefit of the doubt in the past but this is a bridge too far.

"It's just an insult to the fans. I have paid £1,000 in recent weeks going to Champions League games and league games like many other fans."

In 1998, Mr Hall stepped down as vice-chairman, along with chairman Freddy Shepherd, after they were caught in a Spanish brothel. Four months later, they were both reinstated.

They were filmed mocking fans for buying team shirts at inflated prices, labelled Alan Shearer "Mary Poppins" for his clean-living lifestyle and branded Newcastle women "dogs".

Afterwards, the pair wrote a letter to 36,000 Newcastle season ticket holders expressing their deep regret.

Mr Hall and his wife of 21 years, Tonia, 39, left their home on the Wynyard Park estate in Teesside to live as tax exiles in Gibraltar.

Frank Gilmour, chairman of Newcastle Independent Supporters Association, said: "His behaviour has left his own reputation in tatters and consequently that of the club.

"After what happened last time, and now this, he is just rubbing fans' noses in it. He should go."

No one from Newcastle United was available for comment last night.
