There is a Christmas theme to a family fun day planned at Colburn Library this weekend.

People are welcome between noon and 3pm on Sunday, to take part in a host of workshops, including lessons on how to make a musical Christmas card, discovering computers and learning rhymes. There will be a chance to make calendars from family photographs while toddlers can sign special certificates with hand or footprints.

DECORATORS REQUIRED: St Mary's Church, in Richmond, is planning to get the decorators in and wants to hear from anyone who will help. The aisles will be decked with boughs of holly and other greenery on Friday and Saturday, December 20 and 21 - but more willing hands are required. To help, contact Judith Clarke or Margot Fox through the church. St Mary's hosts the Richmond Town Council Christmas Concert from 7pm on Wednesday, December 11. This includes a performance by the Normandy Band Queen's Division.

FESTIVE CONCERT: The Carol Andrew Singers, a mixed-voice international choir, will give an concert of Christmas music in Northallerton Methodist Church, on December 7 at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from Greensleeves Music, Wesley Coffee Pot, or by contacting (01609) 774060.

TOOLS RAID: Tools worth about £1,200 were stolen by thieves who broke into a shed in Lastingham, near Pickering. A hedge cutter, three strimmers and a chainsaw were taken.

MORNING COFFEE: A Christmas coffee morning is being held at the Great Ayton youth hall on Saturday, from 10am to noon. Admission is £1. Proceeds will go to Amaudo UK.

FAIR DO: William Hague opens the Richmond Methodist Church Georgian Fair this weekend. The Richmond MP will be doing the honours at 10am on Saturday, with stalls selling cakes crafts, Christmas decorations and plants.
