Catterick Garrison Town FC, the region's newest football club, have made an excellent start to their league career.

The club play in the Northern Under 19 Alliance League, which was formed in 1996 as the Northern Youth Academy League.

The aim of the league is to develop young players to reach their full potential and it currently comprises teams from six County FA areas forming the Northern and Southern sections, with two divisions in each section.

Catterick Garrison Town are already near the top of the league following a resolute 3-1 victory over a very skilful Selby Town team on November 17.

The team, which includes both civilian and military personnel, enjoys excellent facilities at the Central Ground, Catterick Garrison and also at the Leyburn Road Stadium.

The club has also attracted the full support of sponsors Darlington Building Society. Unveiling the club's new strip, the society's marketing and communications manager David Copland said: "When we heard that Catterick Garrison was taking the bold step of launching a new football club, we wanted to ensure it was a great success."

He added: "Darlington Building Society is dedicated to looking after local interests and we feel this includes the development of local sports facilities and our local players. We have consequently agreed to support Catterick Garrison Town FC for at least their first three seasons."

The club's chairman Maj Dave Jarratt said: "I am most grateful to Darlington Building Society for its generous support. Interest in the team has been so great that for the next season we are considering raising a senior team to join the local league pyramid."
