A SEMINAR to stimulate interest in environmentally-friendly housing and architecture will be staged in the North-East next week.

Award-winning architect Bill Dunster has been invited by Newcastle City Council to present and discuss the work of his Surrey-based practice.

The sustainable and environmental performance of his work has recently been recognised by awards in Austria and Germany.

The agenda for his visit, on Tuesday, will include a morning seminar, meetings with interested groups and individuals in Newcastle City Council, site visits to explore the potential for similar schemes in Newcastle, and an evening seminar/presentation at Newcastle University.

Going for Growth team manager Shona Alexander said: "It is anticipated this visit could be a first step towards creating a housing pilot project for Newcastle, with all of the innovation and interest such a project would bring. Such a project might also have wider implications for the future development of Scotswood."
