A COMMUNITY grant from the North-Eastern Co-op could pay dividends for young footballers who are forming teams at a Chester-le-Street school.
Ten enthusiastic parents are giving their time to develop the football skills of pupils at St Cuthbert's RC School.
Around 50 youngsters, aged between seven and 11, are currently taking part in weekly training sessions.
And now with the help of a £500 community dividend grant from the North-Eastern Co-op they have been able to buy new strips and training equipment for four new teams.
Treasurer Ian Carr said: "The teams will play in the Monkton Stadium Saturday League and have the opportunity to represent their school during tournaments.
"Playing will teach them team skills and confidence as well as building friendships, which will carry on into the school."
Application forms for the community dividend grant scheme are available from Co-op food stores, or by telephoning the society's public relations department, on (0191) 477 0291.
