A THIEF threatened a youth at knifepoint during a series of attacks on youngsters in Darlington, police say.

Reports have been made about four attacks in the centre of the town on Monday evening, but police think others might have been unreported.

The thief, described as a youth, has stolen just £10 despite terrorising ranging in age from 14 to their early-20s.

The suspect stopped all his victims in the street and said he needed change to make a phone call. But when he was offered some money, he started to use threats and demanded more cash.

In one incident the victim refused to hand over money and was threatened with a small knife.

A Darlington police spokesman said: "We believe that other people may have been approached by this thief and may also have handed money over. We want to hear from anyone who has been a victim or seen this thief.

"Although all the thefts we have heard about took place on late Monday afternoon, we think there may have been other incidents over the weekend. Youngsters may not have told anyone about what has happened."

A youth has been arrested in connection with the thefts, but police believe there may have been more people involved and are keen for witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to call Acting Detective Sergeant Graeme Chapman on (01325) 467681.
