Spraire Lasses V Hartlepool St Francis

Spraire Lasses U12s put last week's cup defeat to Sunderland behind them as they cruised to an emphatic win against a much improved St Francis side.

Spraire did not have it all their own way as St Francis moved the ball about the pitch creating some good chances and keeping Spraire at bay for much of the first quarter. Rachel McKnight for Spraire had a good shot saved by the St Francis keeper.

It was Jordan Atkinson who opened the scoring for Spraire after 11 minutes forcing the ball home after her first shot was saved by the keeper. Girl of the match Laura Gowling hit the post and crossbar before Mcknight scored to make it 2-0 with a solo run following a great cross from Laura Spence. Helen McTague worked tirelessly on the right wing feeding balls through to the St Francis goal mouth and a good cross gave Atkinson her second to take the score to 3-0. A well struck swerving corner by Atkinson in the 36th minute deflected off a St Francis defender into the right corner of goal to make the game relatively safe at 4-0. St Francis created some good chances from the kick off but their efforts were thwarted by some solid defensive work from Tanya Shires and Laura Spence and confident goalkeeping from Katie McTague. Spraire continued to pass the ball dominantly about the pitch with two more goals from Jordan Atkinson, a hatrick from Laura Gowling and another from captain Rachel McKnight to finish the match comfortable 10-0 winners.
